Meet Denis: the man saving our bacon

Jan 6th 18

Let me introduce the new Bacon Crusader. He doesn’t have a cape, but Denis Lynn, deer farmer and founder of Northern Ireland’s Finnebrogue artisan foods, is definitely a man on a mission: to strip the nasties out of the nation’s favourite butty filler.

Bacon has been in the dock since 2015 when a World Health Organisation report named processed meats as grade one carcinogens, putting them in the same cancer-causer category as plutonium, mustard gas, tobacco and (sorry guys) alcohol.

Although it doesn’t suggest all are equally dangerous, experts did conclude that a 50g portion of processed meat – a mere couple of rashers – eaten daily increases the risk of colorectal cancer by 18 per cent.
