Finnebrogue Artisan sets Guinness World Record for largest vegan burger

• Record-breaking vegan burger weighs 162.5kg and measures 1.2m diameter.
• The patty is equivalent to 1274 Naked Evolution Burgers.
• Homeless charity received cooked burger so no food waste.

Food producer Finnebrogue Artisan based in Northern Ireland, has become the first ever Guinness World Records^TM title holder of the largest vegan burger.

The world record was set by 10 colleagues at the food producer’s site in Downpatrick, County Down, close to their £30m plant-based facility which opened one year ago in December 2020.

Commenting on the minimum requirements to set the record, Anthea McAuley, Finnebrogue’s Communications Manager, said:

“All ingredients had to be verified as vegan. We used our own Naked Evolution Burger recipe, which we launched in September 2021, and worked with local bakery, Irwins, to create a vegan bread bun.

“To avoid food waste on the day, which is in line with our own policies and that of the Guinness World Records^TM we donated some finished burger slices to homeless charity, The Simon Community, Our staff also enjoyed the tasty burger for their lunch.

“All stages of the record attempt were managed by our marketing manager, Kerri Smith on the day, which had to be evidenced and verified by independent experts before the adjudicator confirmed a record was set.”

The record attempt was critically observed and assessed by Guinness World Records^TM adjudicator, Jack Brockbank, while ex-Blue Peter presenter Radzi Chinyanganya, provided upbeat commentary throughout the day.

Commenting on the record, Sean Kearney, Finnebrogue’s Innovation Process Manager said:

“When our marketing manager, Kerri Smith, told me about the record attempt, I thought she was joking!

“We were set a target weight of 100kg, but we knew from the outset we wanted to exceed that.

“The team included representatives from NPD, marketing and engineering; and together we designed and built everything, including a swing to aid turning the patty during cooking. That was perhaps the most challenging part of the record as we didn’t want to break the patty.”

“The patty took almost 9 hours to cook so the day was long. However, when we added all the condiments and Jack revealed the weight of the burger, we were elated!”

The record-breaking patty is the equivalent of 1274 Naked Evolution Burgers while the condiments included 10kg tomatoes, 4.5kg lettuce, 7kg cheese, 2kg tobacco onions, 5kg gherkins, 5kg Naked without the oink rashers and 5kg Naked Burger sauce.

The Guinness World Records^TM title for largest vegan burger was set at 162.5kg, which is almost 40 per cent heavier than the target weight of 100kg.

Commenting on the Finnebrogue Artisan’s successful attempt, Jack Brockbank, Guinness World Records^TM adjudicator, said:

“Huge congratulations to the Finnebrogue Artisan team for achieving the largest vegan burger!

“It takes some considerable planning and organisation to pull off a feat of this magnitude.

“They observed the strict guidelines provided by Guinness World Records^TM to the letter, and it was a pleasure to witness such a dedicated team at work.”
